In the depths of a dense virtual fog, a strange, shifting creature emerges—brought to life not by biology, but by mathematics.
This fully immersive VR piece explores the blurred boundary between synthetic nature and generative logic.
Created through Houdini using procedural systems, the creature is VR rendered Unreal Engine.
Statement
This entity is not modeled, but generated—its form sculpted from the dynamics of a Strange Attractor: a nonlinear system defined by these equations:
dx / dt = – ax + y + 10 yz
dy / dt = −x – 4y + 5 xz
dz / dt = bz – 5 xy
This mathematical structure is a kind of dual-peaked map.
Using linear feedback controllers, the attractor weaves a network of vertices calculated in real time—rendering time as cyclical, interpreting the past position of a point as its present, and embedding its future into now.
Within the fog, the creature exists as both signal and myth, a reverberation of pre-linguistic perception—alive in code, yet alien to language.
The organisms are blind to the existence that preceded intelligent language systems.
Perhaps those early experiences were nothing more than a labyrinthine resolve, standing firmly at the end of life.
Exhibition
The exhibition with other artists from my degree took place at Central Saint Martins XD Studio, 1 Granary Square, London in November 2024. I installed Meta Quest 4 for VR, a projector showcasing my working progress of modeling, VR rendering, 3D printing, e.t.c. I made a guide on the floor for audience to engage with the VR because the exhibition place was extremely crowded. There were approximately 300 viewers to the collective exhibition.
